1. Plan ahead

A lot of headache can be saved if you plan for every room with extreme care. Determine what type of mood you want in each room. For example,
some people like their living rooms cheerful (which means bright-coloured throw-overs on sofas or funky-patterned carpets/mat), while others want it relaxing (soft, pastel colours throughout). Be certain about what you want first and don’t leave it to chance or “see how”s.

2. Go pre-loved

Today’s generation has gotten over the stigma of using pre-loved items. Just look at the Thrift Store Frenzy! So, search for pre-loved items, like a cupboard or table, and just put a new coat of paint or shellac. This will give new life to old furniture. Be a little thick-skinned to ask relatives and friends if they have any furniture they don’t want anymore, and then get them colour-coordinated or themed with one strong unifying theme (bright, strong colours if you want to make a strong impression, or light, pastel colours if you want the room to be a relaxed area). You can also go on social media to check out some second-hand websites for some great deals.

3. Set aside time to go look!

You won’t find a good deal just drop down from the sky, so you have to take the time to go and investigate smaller shops in nooks and crannies other than in IKEA. So, make it intentional that when you’re on a trip to the coffeeshop or the supermarket, you visit a different area to check out if there are any furniture stores (even second-hand ones) where you might find some treasures.
