If you haven’t walked into an office or home where furniture or ornaments are placed in the weirdest of places, well, then, you’re spared the experience of bad – or poorly interpreted feng shui. Here are some simple common sense, but absolutely logical and practical feng shui tips for your home:

Living room

1) Living room furniture should be arranged with conversation in mind. Face chairs and sofas towards each other to give a sense of family. It’s a statement of “I’m ready to talk and listen to you” and encourages positive communication. Also make sure there’s enough air ventilation and lighting to make it a welcoming and warm room. That way, more positive energy will certainly flood in.

Bedrooms

2) Bedrooms need to send positive but comforting vibes as rest is absolutely vital for the body and soul to be revitalised. Relaxing colours like peach, off white, or other pastel colours of your choice would automatically make the bedroom your preferred room (as compared to dark colours which will make it broody and moody). Beds should be away from the door as much as possible, so that you’re physically removing yourself from the noise and frenzy of the outside world. Make sure you can look out the window from the bed – that way, you’ll be greeting the positive energy every morning when you wake up.

Bathrooms

3) Bathrooms are usually places where we don’t think of utilising feng shui, but a well-planned bathroom will be a source of comfort and clarity. Averagely, we spend around 30 minutes a day in the bathroom washing up, pampering our skin and preparing for the day. That may not sound like much, but if it’s in a cluttered, poorly ventilated bathroom, it can be a very depressing 30 minutes of your life – and remember, it’s daily! So common sense feng shui states that the bathroom needs to be airy, uncluttered, and well-organised so the time spent in there isn’t a stressful one. Simple things like having an attractive- or sharp-looking hand towel to cheer up the bathroom, or a few decorative items to your liking will make the bathroom seem like a place intentionally prepared for you to prepare yourself intentionally for the day.
