So, plan out your annual budget and you will then know how much monthly payments/instalments you can make, and for what period of time. That way, you won’t be getting yourself into a renovation loan that will unpleasantly shock you with the payments at the end of every month.

2. Know the extent to which you want your renovation/refurbishing to go -No one likes to have their lives messed up every 2-3 years with renovations and refurbishing, so determine how big or small of a renovation work you want, as it may be the only one you want to do for maybe the next 6-10 years. It could be a complete makeover, or just small touch-ups here and there. It could be on just one section/room of your home, or various parts but with purpose and intention. Once you have determined this, then you will be in a better position to know what sort of renovation loan suits you.

3. Find a renovation team that will work with your budget -While you don’t want to be pressured to do renovations that will cause further financial strain or headaches in the future, do hear out the plans that an interior designer or renovation team may have. They definitely have more experience than you in renovations, so just make sure you find an easy-to-work-with designer, carpenter and renovation team whom you take advice from, but don’t feel pressured by. It takes two hands to clap so make sure you get the renovation team on your side before securing your renovation loan.
